About Us
The Dublin Veterinary Clinic has been established for over forty years in historic, downtown old Dublin. Dr. Ronald Montgomery, the current practice owner, has managed the clinic for approximately twelve years and has been practicing veterinary medicine for over thirty-five years. His associates, Dr. Amy Welker, with twelve years of experience, and Dr. Colleen Leffel with 26 years experience, assist with Saturday appointments and occasional weekday hours. We treat both small animals and exotics, including birds, reptiles and other pocket pets. Our entire staff is dedicated to quality, life long care for your pet and to educating clients on preventative health care and husbandry.
In deference to our client’s time, we see patients by appointment only. When the clinic is closed, our emergency cases are referred to the MEDVET Emergency facility, located in Worthington at 300 East Wilson Bridge Road. MEDVET is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and they can be reached at (614) 846-5800.
If you are transferring from a previous clinic, please have them fax your pet’s records so that we can be apprised of their pertinent medical and vaccine history.
Is your dog vaccinated for Lepto?
Leptospirosis is a zoonotic disease that can pass from animals to humans. It is a bacterial disease that damages the liver and kidneys of dogs, sometimes resulting in renal failure and death. It is caused by a spirochete (spiral shaped bacterium) called a leptospire.
Leptospires live in fluids from infected animals, including urine, saliva, blood and milk. The disease is transmitted by direct contact with the fluids or with an infected animal. It is also transmitted by indirect contact such as vegetation, food and water, soil and bedding materials. Leptospires enter the body through mucous membranes or through breaks in the skin. The disease may be carried for years in animals without any apparent symptoms of the disease.
Any age, breed or sex of dog is susceptible to leptospirosis, although in general, young animals are more severely affected than adults. Large breed outdoor adult dogs are most commonly affected.
Leptospirosis can cause irreversible kidney damage, liver damage, uveitis (inflammation of the inner part of the eye), and damage to other organs.
Some clinics now are vaccinating the Distemper/Parvo vaccine every three years and not vaccinating for Lepto which needs to be boostered yearly. We have a yearly Distemper/Parvo vaccine that includes the Lepto vaccine. This saves your pet from having two seperate vaccines.
